03/03/2007: "UK Private Investigator Blog - "Data Recovery Specilists""

Many P.I. firms now offer data recovery services, to find missing or deleted information from computers. The service is often used by parents who think their children are hiding something on their PC - i.e. talking to their friends about drug use, or being cyber-stalked. Other cases involve criminal activity, in which one side wants the data recovered for use in court proceedings either to help convict or to show innocence.

You should be aware of the different types of tools available for this. Some investigation firms will buy specialist software and some training costing 1000+ that they'll use to solve most easier aspects of data recovery. This is becoming more common, that the PIs offering this service aren't "experts" in the field but know some of the basic jobs.

There are 2 types of situations that data recovery specialists deal with - 1) Software problems. i.e. the computer is intact and the data has been deleted. This usually calls for the specialist software mentioned earlier. 2) Hardware. The computer itself is damaged, and isn't working. This job needs "hard core" professional data recovery specialists as the hardware itself needs to be examined, repaired and then data regained from it.

If you're in need of any of these services I have extensive contacts throughout the UK and USA covering most regions.

Thanks,
Andy
